WWE Announces Former ‘Daily Show’ Host Jon Stewart To Host SummerSlam

The WWE is getting savvier by the day.

In addition to creating some fascinating storylines heading into this weekend’s SummerSlam, the company is boosting ratings with some of its biggest pop culture crossovers ever.

Earlier this summer, WWE announced The Terminator — as portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger himself — would appear in the newest installment of their video game franchise, WWE 2K16.

Last week, it was TV actor Stephen Amell — who stars as DC Comics super hero The Green Arrow on CW’s “Arrow” — finally making his way into the ring and fighting Stardust, setting up a tag team match with Neville (joining Amell) and King Barrett (joining Stardust) at SummerSlam. It was the culmination of months of feuding between the two, which actually leads into the biggest news of the day.

Jon Stewart, who recently stepped away as host of “The Daily Show,” will host SummerSlam, WWE announced Monday.

Stewart should be a terrific host due to his expertise in comedy and satire — which typically translates well into the world of sports.

But earlier this year, Stewart feuded with WWE superstar and heavyweight champion Seth Rollins.

Which culminated in Stewart appearing on “Monday Night RAW” in March.

Rollins, of course, defended his heavyweight title last week on “RAW,” and will do so again Sunday — with Cena’s belt on the line as well in a winner-take-all match. It certainly seems like an opportune time for Stewart to interfere.
