New York Yankees rookie pitcher Bryan Mitchell was in the midst of his second start of the season Monday when he was struck in the face with a line drive off the bat of Minnesota Twins batter — and former Yankee — Eduardo Nunez.

Mitchell was able to walk off the field under his own power, despite the bleeding. He was a spot starter for New York, who pushed back C.C. Sabathia in the midst of a stretch of 16 straight days with a game.
The scene certainly didn’t look good, but MLB.com Yankees beat writer Bryan Hoch offered somewhat of a positive update later Monday night.

Mitchell was charged with one earned run in 1 2/3 innings of work in the Yankees’ eventual 8-7 walk-off win.
