Brandon Carlo is having a pretty good couple of days.
The Boston Bruins’ 2015 second-round draft pick signed his entry-level contract, the team announced Friday. The news comes one day after Carlo scored a goal in the Bruins’ 4-3 shootout win over the New York Rangers.
Boston took the 18-year-old D-man with the 37th overall pick of the draft in June. The Colorado native spent the last two seasons playing for the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans. He tallied four goals and 21 assists in 63 games with the Americans last season, and he put up 7-31-38 totals during his two seasons with Tri-City, also totaling 156 penalty minutes.
Carlo isn’t expected to be with the big club any time soon, which means he’ll likely head back to the WHL for at least the 2015-16 season.
The 6-foot-5 blue-liner considers himself a defensive-minded defenseman and is likely to spend time focusing on the offensive part of his game.
“I think my poise with the puck is something I need to work on” Carlo told NESN.com in July at Bruins development camp. “Not forcing passes and being relaxed with the puck. Make the simple plays, and just the consistency with the grittiness of my game. I feel like that’s a big part of Boston’s game and something that I would definitely have to do to make it to this level. That’s something that I’d like to work on and consistency with that.”
