Conor McGregor probably won’t give up on trash-talking Jose Aldo any time soon, but now, he’s borrowing phrases from one of UFC’s best athletes.
The interim featherweight champion said Wednesday during a media event in Los Angeles that his weight division was nothing before he got on the scene, and he used Ronda Rousey’s favorite insult against Aldo.
“Before me, there was no main-event featherweight fight,” McGregor said, per MMAFighting.com. “No featherweights would fight in the main event unless the world title was at stake. And even then, because Jose is a ‘do-nothing b—-,’ as Ronda would say. He fights very little, it was maybe one or two. Now since I burst on the scene, there are eight, nine, 10 featherweight main events.”
McGregor is so certain he’ll take down all the featherweights, too, that he plans to move up to lightweight after his UFC 194 fight with Aldo on Dec. 12.
“I’m hoping Jose will show up,” McGregor said, per MMAFighting.com. “I’m going to retire him, end his career, and then I’ve done what I’ve said I’ll do. I said I’m going to kill the featherweight division, there’s nobody left.”
However, one thing tat would make McGregor stay in the featherweight division just a little bit longer. If Frankie Edgar can beat Chad Mendes on Dec. 11, then McGregor would be happy to take him down, too.
“If Frankie was to put on a phenomenal performance and stop Chad, or maybe something like that, then I can say, all right, let’s answer the Frankie question, let’s shut him down real quick,” McGregor said. “But in my mind, I’m thinking, I’m going to unify the belts, I’m going to destroy the division, and then I’m going to take the lightweight division as well. That’s where I’m headed right now.”
