BOSTON — David Ortiz moved one step closer to history in typical David Ortiz style.

The Red Sox designated hitter absolutely smoked an offering from Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison in the third inning of Wednesday night’s 10-4 win in the series finale at Fenway Park.

The ball cleared the wall in center for a three-run home run, the 498th career long ball for Big Papi and his 32nd of the season. The shot also pushed him up to 90 RBIs on the year.

Ortiz’s blast also came at a pretty good time for Boston. The Sox already led by a run after Mookie Betts hit a solo homer earlier in the game, but the slugger’s dinger opened Boston’s lead up to 4-0 at the time.

Unfortunately for Sox fans, the team will embark on an eight-game road trip starting Friday, so it’s very possible Ortiz’s 500th could come away from Fenway Park.
