BOSTON — David Ortiz is inching closer to becoming a member of the 500 home run club.
The Boston Red Sox slugger hit a two-run homer, his 31st of the season and 497th of his career, in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Fenway Park. [tweet https://twitter.com/Shesta_Sox/status/640595611411214337 align=”center”]
Ortiz sits 27th on the all-time home run leaderboard. He will remain in that spot until he ties Baltimore Orioles legend Eddie Murray at 504.
On Saturday, Ortiz set a Red Sox record with his ninth 30-homer season.
