David Ortiz has had some difficulty against certain pitchers despite being arguably the greatest designated hitter in Major League Baseball history.

Whether it’s because of unpredictability, a funky release or overpowering stuff, some pitchers have had Ortiz’s number.

Ortiz recently named the five toughest pitchers he’s ever faced in an article for The Players’ Tribune.

Ortiz didn’t want to be boring. Thus, he added a disclaimer, saying he named three legendary pitchers and two younger hurlers who have impressed him recently to make things more interesting.

Some of the pitchers Ortiz listed might come as a surprise. But each should take pride in being on Big Papi’s list. The Boston Red Sox slugger has hit more than 500 home runs in his illustrious career.

Here are the five toughest pitchers Ortiz has faced, according to the man himself.
