David Ortiz earned a day off with his performance in the Boston Red Sox’s 7-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Friday night. So he’s getting one.

Ortiz is sitting for the middle game of Boston’s three-game set with the O’s following a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles and three RBIs. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will take over Ortiz’s regular designated hitter role for the afternoon, and Josh Rutledge will play second base in Pedroia’s stead.

As a result, rookie first baseman Travis Shaw moves up a spot in the order and will takeover the cleanup role.

On the mound, left-handed reliever Craig Breslow makes his first career start in Boston’s first “bullpen” game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
