Blindsiding a referee is one thing. Hitting an opponent on the head with your helmet is another. But using IcyHot as a weapon? The line must be drawn.

A high school football player in California has been accused of smearing a heat rub substance on an opposing player’s face during a game earlier this month, CBS Los Angeles reported last week.

The incident allegedly occurred Sept. 4 when Salesian High School squared off with La Canada High School. A Salesian player allegedly reached under the mask of La Canada’s Angel Salazar and rubbed IcyHot on the teen’s face.

Salazar returned to the sideline following the bizarre incident, at which point a photographer captured the victimized player being assisted as he washed off his face.

“That’s the kind of substance that if it really got in your eyes, it can do some damage,” La Canada principal Ian McFeat said, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Video of the alleged incident can be seen below.

This adds to a weird stretch of misbehavior on the high school gridiron. Two Texas high school football players blindsided a referee earlier this month after their coach allegedly ordered them to do so, and another high school player recently was caught on video hitting an opponent with his helmet.

Kids these days.
