If high school fantasy football was a thing, Journey Brown would have given you enough points to last a whole season Friday night.
Brown is the star running back at Meadville (Pa.) High School, and to say he had a good game against DuBois (Pa.) would be an understatement.
Brown rushed for a surreal 722 yards and 10 touchdowns on “only” 30 carries. His ridiculous effort broke the state record for rushing yards in a game by more than 200. It was the second-most yards by a running back in national history, behind only Netcong (N.J.) High’s John Giannantonio, who ran for 754 yards in 1950.
“I’m tired,” Brown told the Meadville Tribune after the game. “I’m real tired. But it doesn’t matter. I came to play for the team, not myself.”
Brown’s stats weren’t the only eye-popping numbers on display Friday night. Meadville won the game by an unfathomable score of 107-90, and pretty much broke DuBois’ scoreboard in the process.
Also overshadowed on the night was the play of DuBois quarterback Matt Miller, who completed 31 of 54 passes for 788 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In other words, not a good night to be a defensive coordinator.
