Jason Day will be looking to stay on a roll in the FedEx Cup playoffs this weekend when he tees off at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., as the betting favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com in the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Day sits as the +600 betting favorite to win this week’s second FedEx Cup event, after he surged to a win at The Barclays last weekend to grab the lead in the standings for the PGA Tour’s playoffs. Day started The Barclays with rounds of 68 on Thursday and the Friday, but rolled to scores of 63 and 62 on the weekend to win the event by six strokes over Henrik Stenson.
Helping Day take over the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings was Jordan Spieth missing the cut at The Barclays after turning in rounds of 74 and 73 on Thursday and Friday. Still, after winning four times on the PGA Tour this season, the oddsmakers have Spieth as the co-second favorite for this week at +750 odds.
Joining Spieth at +750 on the Deutsche Bank Championship odds is Rory McIlroy, who is 15th in the FedEx Cup standings despite skipping The Barclays last week. McIlroy competed in just nine PGA Tour events in 2015 but won twice.
Stenson, who shot rounds of 68, 66, 67, and 66 at The Barclays but couldn’t keep up with Day, is tied with Dustin Johnson at +1400 on the odds to win the Deutsche Bank Championship. Stenson jumped from 41st to fourth in the FedEx Cup standings with his second-place finish last week, while Johnson moved up slightly from seventh to sixth.
Justin Rose, eighth in the FedEx Cup standings, is at +1600 odds for this week at the sportsbooks, with Bubba Watson at +2000. Watson ended up third behind Day and Stenson at The Barclays, and he sits third in the FedEx Cup standings after the first playoff event.
Rounding out the top contenders for the week are Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson at +3300, followed by Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama, Jim Furyk, Louis Oosthuizen and Matt Kuchar at +4000, and Brandt Snedeker, Paul Casey and Phil Mickelson at +5000.
Mickelson finished tied for 50th at The Barclays and sits 52nd in the FedEx Cup standings. The Top 70 in the standings after this week move on to the third round of the playoffs.
