Kevin Kiermaier’s attempt to rob a home run this weekend didn’t go too well, but he made up for it and then some Monday night.

The Tampa Bay Rays centerfielder made one of the most incredible plays of the season right off the bat against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Third baseman Manny Machado led off the bottom of the first inning with a bomb to center field, but Kiermaier raced back and made a fantastic leaping catch while crashing into the outfield wall.

Does that catch remind you of anything?

It should, as Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout made almost an identical play at Camden Yards on June 27, 2012.

When you’re getting compared to a guy like Trout, you know you’re doing something right.

Kiermaier paid a price for his acrobatics, though, suffering a mild ankle sprain on the play and leaving the game after his third inning at-bat. But the Rays went on to win 6-3, and the 25-year-old outfielder laid claim to one of the best plays of the 2015 season.
