Emotions are boiling over in D.C.

The Washington Nationals officially were eliminated from playoff contention this week, and it doesn’t seem like closer Jonathan Papelbon is enjoying his tenure in the nation’s capital.

Following teammate Bryce Harper’s popout in the eighth inning Sunday, Papelbon appeared to start yapping at the 22-year-old. Harper evidently took exception.

Notice how Papelbon goes directly for Harper’s throat? It’s fitting because the Nationals have choked since acquiring Papelbon three days before the MLB non-waiver trade deadline. The then-NL East leaders have gone 27-29 since the trade.

The Philadelphia Phillies went on to score 10 runs over the final two innings Sunday and blow out the Nationals 12-5.
