Saints QB Drew Brees Ruled Out Sunday Vs. Panthers With Shoulder Injury

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints hoped the quarterback would be under center Sunday, but those hopes ended up being for naught.

Brees won’t play versus the Carolina Panthers, as the Saints have declared him out with a shoulder injury. Backup quarterback Luke McCown is expected to start in Brees’ place, with Garrett Grayson the No. 2.

This will be the first game Brees has missed because of injury since he joined the Saints in 2006.

Brees and the Saints struggled in first two games of the season. They dropped both games, including a 26-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home last week, and Brees has completed 62.8 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His 82.0 passer rating is the lowest of his carerer since his second full season as the starter with the San Diego Chargers.

This recent Verizon commercial, starring McCown, seems appropriate right about now, too.
