Week 1 got the best of one NFL official.

Line judge Gary Arthur left Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens after being bundled along the sideline on a first-quarter punt.

Unfortunately, Arthur didn’t escape with just a couple of bumps and bruises. A league source told ProFootballTalk on Monday morning that Arthur still was hospitalized in Denver after suffering nine broken ribs and a collapsed lung in the collision.

Let’s hope Arthur has a speedy recovery. This incident certainly highlights the dangers of running around among 22 behemoth men — and potentially more near the sideline — when they’re wearing pads and you’re not.
