Patriots ‘Actively’ Looking To Trade For Big-Bodied Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots might not be happy with their current crop of wide receivers.

The Patriots are “actively” shopping for a big-bodied wide receiver, a league source tells NESN.com. The Patriots currently have Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper, Jalen Saunders, Matthew Slater and Reggie Wayne on their active roster at the position. LaFell still is dealing with a foot injury that has kept him out of practice all summer, so he could begin the season on the physically unable to perform/reserve list.

Wayne was absent for Saturday’s practice. The Patriots must cut their roster down to 53 players by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. They traded a conditional seventh-round pick for Saunders last week. They also claimed wide receiver DaVaris Daniels off waivers last week but released him Friday.

The Patriots have made four trades this summer, so it’s not surprising to see them try to pull off another move on cutdown day.
