FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots added another wide receiver Tuesday in a series of roster moves.
The Patriots claimed wideout DaVaris Daniels off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings after trading a conditional 2018 seventh-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints for receiver Jalen Saunders.
Daniels, who’s 6-foot-1, 201 pounds, went undrafted out of Notre Dame this spring. He ran a 4.53-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March, with a 6.81-second three-cone and 4.35-second short shuttle. He also recorded a 39.5-inch vertical leap and 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump. He caught one pass for 6 yards in the preseason.
To trim their roster to 75 players, the Patriots placed defensive lineman Chris Jones and linebacker Dane Fletcher on physically unable to perform/reserve, which means they must sit out the first six weeks of the NFL season.
The Patriots also waived offensive lineman Chris Barker and linebacker D.J. Lynch.
The Patriots placed fullback James Develin and rookie cornerback Darryl Roberts on injured reserve. Roberts, a seventh-round pick, injured his wrist in the Patriots’ preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers.
The Patriots had to cut their roster down to 75 players by 4 p.m. Their next cuts come Saturday, when they must trim their roster to 53 players.
Wide receivers Josh Boyce and Jonathan Krause went unclaimed after being waived/injured. The two wideouts revert to injured reserve.
Notably, the Patriots didn’t place wideout Brandon LaFell on PUP/reserve. They still have time to place LaFell on PUP/reserve before final roster cuts Saturday.
