Khyri Thornton, we hardly knew ye.

The New England Patriots waived Thornton on Thursday to make room for newly acquired wide receiver Keshawn Martin, a source told NESN.com. Thornton, a defensive tackle, was claimed off waivers from the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6 and was inactive Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Patriots’ trade with the Houston Texans for Martin is official. The Patriots shipped a fifth-round draft pick to the Texans for Martin and a sixth-round pick.

Thornton’s release leaves the Patriots with Malcom Brown, Sealver Siliga and Alan Branch at defensive tackle as Dominique Easley nurses a hip injury. Martin joins Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Aaron Dobson on the Patriots’ wide receiver depth chart.
