Paul Pierce could be riding off into the sunset sooner than anyone anticipated.
The former Boston Celtics forward, who hinted at retirement last spring, signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers this summer. But despite the length of the deal with his hometown team, the 37-year-old said if he wins another championship, he’s likely calling it quits.
“I don’t have much basketball left — whether it’ll be this year or another year,” Pierce told the press at Clippers media day Friday, via the Orange County Register. “To come home and play in front of family and friends and possibly win a championship, it’s like a dream come true. If we win this year, win a championship, I’ll probably be done with basketball to be honest.
“It’ll be a dream to be home and carry that championship trophy down Manchester Boulevard.”
Pierce, of course, won his only championship in 2008 with the Celtics while playing for coach Doc Rivers, who now coaches the Clippers.
