This team just doesn’t give up.
The Boston Red Sox fell behind early, but battled back to steal a 4-3 win from the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday — Boston’s second consecutive come-from-behind win.
Rich Hill was terrific once again, and an evenly distributed offense — led by Travis Shaw — helped the Red Sox move within six games of .500.
They also took the season series with the Blue Jays, 10 games to nine.
GAME IN A WORD
Phew.
The Red Sox made it close, but Robbie Ross Jr. locked down the save in a one-run game for the second straight day.
IT WAS OVER WHEN…
Ross struck out pinch-hitter Justin Smoak with the tying run in scoring position.
ON THE BUMP
— Rich Hill turned in his second consecutive quality start Sunday.
The left-handed pitcher struck out double-digit batters for his second consecutive start as well — making some Red Sox history in the process.
His final line: seven innings, three earned runs, seven hits and 10 strikeouts over 107 pitches. He did not walk a batter.
— Noe Ramirez took over in the eighth, and retired the side without much incident, allowing just a hit to Edwin Encarnacion.
— Ross allowed a ground-rule double to Russell Martin in the bottom of the ninth, but took care of business by striking out Smoak. It’s his fourth save of the season, and second of the series.
IN THE BATTER’S BOX
— Jackie Bradley Jr. was productive for the second consecutive day following a 1-for-30 slump.
He singled and later hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Pablo Sandoval for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
— Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts and Shaw all had multi-hit games. Pedroia and Bogaerts each had two hits, while Shaw had a game-high three hits. He also drove in two runs with an RBI single.
With their two hits, Pedroia and Bogaerts raised their batting averages to .296 and .323, respectively. Shaw jumped up to .281.
— Mookie Betts, David Ortiz and Sandoval all went hitless for Boston.
— Dioner Navarro smacked a two-run home run against Hill, his only real blemish of the day.
