Report: Patrick Kane Generating Trade Interest From ‘At Least Five Teams’

Patrick Kane has much, much bigger things to worry about, but if and when his NHL career resumes, it might be in a different city.

The Chicago Blackhawks superstar currently is under an investigation for rape in the Buffalo, N.Y., area. He hasn’t been charged yet, and the investigation is ongoing, which means his future is very much up in the air.

If and when he’s cleared to play, however, there figures to be plenty of interest in the winger should the Blackhawks decided to move him. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday “at least five teams” have contacted the Blackhawks since news of the investigation began. The report did make clear, however, that “there has been no firm indication yet that the Hawks truly are willing to take that drastic step (of trading Kane).”

On the ice, Kane is one of the NHL’s best players and elite scorers. A three-time Stanley Cup winner, Kane has 205 goals in 576 games and has scored no fewer than 21 goals in each of his eight seasons. Kane’s also entering the first year of an eight-year, $84 million contract.

Off the ice, though, it’s a different story. In addition to his current issues, he’s been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. In fact, a team source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Kane “disrespected” the team and his teammates with his latest problems.

UPDATE (11:25 a.m. ET): According to FOX Sports Midwest’s Andy Strickland, Kane might not be going anywhere anytime soon.
