It doesn’t appear the drama surrounding Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins is ending any time soon.
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden announced Monday that Kirk Cousins — not Griffin — would be the team’s starting quarterback in 2015. Gruden indicated the decision was made based on more than just Griffin’s injury and made sure to indicate Washington was “Kirk’s team.”
There was plenty of backlash from Redskins fans who still support Griffin. Just hours after the decision was made, one fan wrote a lengthy Instagram post denouncing the move. That post was then “liked” by Griffin’s personal Instagram account.
“As a Skins Fan I’m disappointed in the way my team used this mans talent and potential to do nothing but raise hopes and make a profit,” the post read. “I don’t regret the skins grabbing RG, I do regret having a sorry a– team owner and sorry a– front office who couldn’t put a winning coaching staff together who could actually compete for a super bowl. Griffin does not deserve the blame or bad rap, the man has gone above and beyond since day one to the point of injury, while at the same time being a role model of a person. The Redskins let him fall and did not help him get up. No matter if he’s a starter, back up, or played for another team I will always respect and be a fan of RG3.”
Obviously, the optics of the scorned QB liking a post blasting the “sorry a– owner and sorry a– front office” isn’t great. However, RG3 insists it wasn’t actually him who liked the post.
He posted this explanation to Instagram on Tuesday morning, blaming the liking on an intern.

Who knows what will come of this latest wrinkle in the ongoing saga. If Griffin’s days in Washington are numbered, that wouldn’t be entirely shocking. ESPN.com recently reported that the Redskins have had trade discussions with other teams about the former No. 2 overall pick, but time will tell.
