T.J. Ward’s Reason For Being Suspended: ‘My Last Name’s Not Brady’

One NFL suspension was vacated Thursday, but the leagued doled out another — and that’s apparently causing an uproar.

On the same day New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady saw his four-game suspension vacated by a federal judge, Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward was suspended one game. The suspension was in response to misdemeanor charges from a bar incident back in May of 2014. The charges were dropped, but Ward did serve four hours of community service.

Ward, as you might expect, wasn’t thrilled about the suspension. He even wondered aloud whether things might have been different had he been a certain quarterback on one of the Broncos’ biggest AFC rivals.

“My last name’s not Brady,” Ward told The Denver Post when asked why he was handed the suspension.

“It’s really unfair,” Ward continued to the Post. “I’m getting punished for being accused of doing something. Not doing something, but being accused. And I’ve got to pay the consequences.”

Back in 2014, Ward was accused of allegedly throwing a mug at a bartender in a Denver strip club, according to court documents.

Patriots fans, of course, know all too well about Ward. His hit on Rob Gronkowski in a 2014 game left the Patriots tight end with a torn ACL and MCL.

“I feel bad he got hurt, you know, but that’s about it,” Ward said at the time. “I’m just playing fast out there and coincidentally, it was a bang-bang play. I think if he wouldn’t have gotten hurt, it wouldn’t be an issue.”
