Terrell Suggs Injury: Ravens Linebacker’s Season Over After Torn Achilles

The Baltimore Ravens lost Sunday’s season opener to the Denver Broncos, but that wasn’t the worst news.

Terrell Suggs, a key part of the Ravens’ excellent defense and one of the NFL’s best pass rushers, suffered a torn Achilles in the game and will miss the remainder of the 2015 season, the team announced via Twitter.

As ESPN’s Skip Bayless noted, this is Suggs’ second Achilles tear. He tore his right Achilles in 2012 and missed eight games, although he returned to play in Baltimore’s Super Bowl win that season.

Suggs, 32, is a six-time Pro Bowl selection. His loss weakens the Ravens, but they still should be good enough defensively to compete for the AFC North title.

Baltimore held the Peyton Manning-led Denver offense to just 219 yards of total offense, including zero touchdowns and one interception. In fact, the Ravens’ only touchdown in the game was a pick-six by cornerback Jimmy Smith, as they lost 19-13.
