The U.S. Open women’s singles final will feature some unexpected names Saturday.
Many already had penciled Serena Williams into the finals at Flushing Meadows, but Italian Roberta Vinci put an end to that Friday with a shocking upset in the semifinals. Vinci’s win set up a showdown against her compatriot, Flavia Pennetta, who surprised world No. 2 Simona Halep in the other semifinal.
