Talk about an exciting way to start the World Series.

The New York Mets went down silently in the top of the first inning of Game 1 on Tuesday, but the Kansas City Royals woke up the Kauffman Stadium crowd in the bottom of the frame.

Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar led off the bottom of the first inning with an inside-the-park home run on the very first pitch he saw off of Mets pitcher Matt Harvey.

It turns out it was quite the historic home run, too, as he was the first to hit an inside-the-park homer in the World Series since 1929.

The Royals won the game, 5-4, in 14 innings.
