ACC Football Odds: Boston College A Home Underdog Vs. Virginia Tech
The Boston College Eagles will search for their first straight-up victory in their past six games against an Atlantic Coast Conference rival when they return home Saturday to battle the Virginia Tech Hokies as two-point betting underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The struggling Eagles saw their overall record drop to 3-5 SU last weekend with their fourth consecutive loss, falling 17-14 in Louisville, but picked up their third against-the-spread victory in their last four, covering as seven-point road underdogs.
Despite its struggles to win on the field, Boston College has performed well at the sportsbooks, entering Saturday afternoon’s Hokies vs. Eagles betting matchup at Alumni Stadium with a 9-6-1 ATS record in its past 16 games, but has covered in just two of its past seven home dates.
The Hokies, meanwhile, are winless in their last two and 1-3 SU in conference action.
Virginia Tech is coming off a 45-43 loss to No. 23 Duke as 3 1/2-point home chalk, recording its eighth outright loss in its last 11 as a favorite, a streak that includes its last meeting with Boston College when the Hokies came up short in a 33-31 home loss last season. But Virginia Tech has largely held the upper hand in recent years, topping BC in six of their last nine meetings and going 5-4 ATS, according to the OddsShark College Football Database.
In other ACC action this weekend, No. 3 Clemson will look to make an impression on the College Football Playoff rankings committee when it visits the North Carolina State Wolfpack as a 10 1/2-point favorite.
The Tigers climbed three positions in the AP Top 25 this week, following their 10th consecutive SU victory, a 58-0 blowout of the Miami Hurricanes. Clemson can cement its position as a national championship contender with a big win over the Wolfpack ahead of next week’s release of the first CFP rankings of the season.
No. 11 Florida State will try to bounce back from last week’s stunning 22-16 loss to Georgia Tech when it hosts the Syracuse Orange as a 20 1/2-point favorite. The Seminoles’ loss as five-point favorites dropped them to 6-1 SU on the season, damaging their chances of challenging for the national title while their futures plummeted to 66/1.
No. 23 Pittsburgh hosts North Carolina as a three-point underdog Thursday, while the Demon Deacons entertain the Cardinals as 12-point underdogs on Friday night, and the Blue Devils are eight-point favorites in their matchup with the Hurricanes on Saturday.
