Tyler Randell played in his first NHL game Wednesday night, and it did not take him long to make an impact.
The Boston Bruins winger, who was a healthy scratch for the team’s first three games this season, recorded his first NHL goal early in the second period when he deflected an Adam McQuaid shot past Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov.
“It’s unbelievable,” the 24-year-old told NESN rinkside reporter Nikki Reyes after the second period. “… It’s great to get that first one in the first game and get it off your back. (I can) just worry about playing now. It got the nerves out of the way.”
According to the team, Randell was the first Bruins player to score in his NHL debut since Blake Wheeler did so in 2008.
Wednesday’s game also featured the first NHL point for defenseman Colin Miller and Jimmy Hayes’ first goal in a Bruins sweater.
