Carl Soderberg was one of several Boston Bruins players to leave town this past offseason, joining the Colorado Avalanche via trade on the eve of the 2015 NHL Draft.
He did not have to wait long to face his former team.
The Avalanche host the Bruins on Wednesday, setting up an early-season reunion for both Soderberg and fellow ex-Bruin Jarome Iginla.
“It’s is going to be fun,” Soderberg told reporters at the Pepsi Center, via The Denver Post. “It’s my old teammates, it’s going to be a special game for sure. That’s the team where I started my NHL career.
“… It’s a good organization, for sure, so I can’t say anything bad about them right now. I’m an Avalanche and I am going to give my very best performance (Wednesday night), but I had good years there.”
Soderberg was one of just two Bruins to appear in all 82 games last season, and his 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) ranked third on the roster. Salary-cap concerns brought about the end of the 30-year-old center’s tenure in Boston, however, and he promptly signed a five-year, $23.75 million contract with Colorado just one day after being traded there.
So far, the big Swede says he’s enjoying his new home.
“I’m fitting in pretty good,” said Soderberg, who has two assists in two games with the Avs. “It’s a different game, but I’m fitting in. The Bruins, it’s more defense, here it’s a skill game and faster. It’s different, and I can adjust to that.”
