Doug Martin has had a hard time shedding his “Muscle Hamster” nickname, so the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back is taking a proactive approach.

Martin, who has made it clear several times he hates his old moniker, told reporters Wednesday he has a new nickname. It’s now up to everyone else to run with the new label.

“Dougernaut?” Martin said, per ESPN.com. “Yeah, that’s the nickname I’m going with.”

The “Muscle Hamster” nickname was given to Martin during his days at Boise State. It really took off during Martin’s rookie season with the Bucs in 2012, when he rushed for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 49 receptions for 472 yards and another score.

Martin’s production dipped the last two seasons, but he’s starting to reemerge in Tampa Bay’s backfield. The 26-year-old has rushed for 405 yards and three touchdowns in five games this season.

The man should have his choice with that type of production.
