Eric Hosmer went from goat to one of the heroes Tuesday night, and he has Alex Gordon to thank.

The Kansas City Royals first baseman looked to have coughed up Game 1 of the World Series when he made an error on a routine ground ball in the top of the eighth inning. The costly blunder allowed the Mets to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Luckily for Hosmer, though, Gordon stepped up with one out against Mets closer Jeurys Familia and hammered a pitch deep into the Kansas City night over the center-field fence.

Clearly relieved, Hosmer sought out Gordon in the dugout and essentially professed his love for his teammate with a little bit of salty language.

Hosmer, GordonGordon’s homer paved the way for Hosmer’s ultimate redemption later in the game. It was Hosmer who drove in the game-winning run with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th to give Kansas City the Game 1 win.
