Jason Garrett: ‘No Bad Intent’ Behind Greg Hardy’s Tom Brady Comments

FOXBORO, Mass. — Jason Garrett already is playing damage control for Greg Hardy.

Hardy, who will return Sunday from a four-game suspension related to a domestic abuse charge, referenced New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s wife and used a poor choice of words Tuesday to describe his mindset about joining the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett suggested Wednesday that Hardy meant no harm by his questionable comments and that it was an instance of overexcitement.

“Typically, we try to keep things in-house here with the Cowboys,” Garrett said on a conference call with the New England media when asked about Hardy’s comments. “Greg is excited to be playing. Sometimes, things come out of your mouth when you are excited.

“I think he has an understanding that it is more important to define yourself as a player more than anything else. I think he will learn from those comments and the reaction to them. I don’t think it was anything — there was no bad intent, by any means. I think he is just excited to get back to playing football.”

Maybe Garrett is right. Then again, who can trust Hardy given all that we know?

The defensive end would have been better off sticking to basic answers rather than saying anything that could be considered even slightly inflammatory, but apparently, that’s too much to ask.

Hey, at least Tom Brady isn’t too concerned about the comments.
