Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell received some great news Thursday.

Farrell, who was diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphoma in August, underwent post-treatment testing Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital. The tests revealed Farrell’s cancer was in remission.

“I am extremely thankful for the outpouring of support I have received from the Red Sox, my family, friends and fans throughout this process,” Farrell said, according to a press release. “I am also especially thankful for the talented doctors who cared for me in Detroit and here at MGH. I look forward to getting back to work and bringing another championship back to Boston.”

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced earlier this month that Farrell, who was away from the team indefinitely while going through chemotherapy, would return for the 2016 season. Torey Lovullo, who served as Boston’s interim manager in Farrell’s absence, will return to his bench coach role under a new, more lucrative contract.

“We are thrilled to hear the great news about John today,” Dombrowski said Thursday, per the release. “Foremost, we are extremely happy for him and his family, knowing what he has gone through over the past two months. We all admire him for his strength and courage, and look forward to having him back as our manager.”

Farrell, who served as Boston’s pitching coach from 2007 through 2010, has been the Red Sox’s manager for three seasons. The Red Sox won a World Series with Farrell at the helm in 2013.
