Jonny Gomes is known for his outrageous celebrations and clutch moments. Both of those traits failed him Wednesday.

The Kansas City Royals’ reserve outfielder celebrated KC’s series-clinching 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros on the field with his daughter, swinging her around in celebration. Teammate Jason Vargas’ child saw the action, thought it looked fun and ran over to play with Gomes and his daughter.

Then this happened.

Here’s another angle.

Incredibly enough, this isn’t the first incident that saw a young child in the line of fire at a baseball game Wednesday. A baby was nearly smacked with a beer can during the Toronto Blue Jays’ Game 5 win over the Texas Rangers.

Here’s hoping baby Vargas is OK.
