“Back To The Future II” Day finally is here, and while we still need roads, we apparently won’t have to tie our shoelaces for much longer.
Nike debuted their new futuristic sneakers, the Mag, that visually are similar to a pair that Michael J. Fox’s character Marty McFly wears in the “Back To The Future” trilogy.
The coolest part about them, though? They tie themselves. Sort of.
The shoes don’t actually need to be tied, as the new technology in them “is an individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion to provide adaptive on-demand comfort and support.” In short: they can be tightened and loosened with the push of a button, and it sounds like they “learn” and adjust to your foot for a unique comfort experience.
Of course, it only made sense that Michael J. Fox be the first to try them on.
Fox also received a personal letter from Nike, which in part announced that the company plans to sell the shoes for a limited time with proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
Apparently Fox wasn’t the only person to get a pair, though: Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, known for being a sneakerhead, rocked a pair before Wednesday’s Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Now if only the Cubs could reach the World Series.
