BOSTON — Alexander Burmistrov might have earned himself a call from the league office in the very first period of the season.

The Winnipeg Jets center was penalized Thursday after throwing an elbow into the face of Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron.

Bergeron, who has dealt with concussion issues in the past, immediately went after Burmistrov, hitting him with a cross-check and igniting a multiplayer scuffle near the Boston blue line.

The teams eventually were separated, and three players were given two-minute stays in the penalty box: Burmistrov for an illegal check to the head and both Bergeron and Jets winger Adam Lowry for roughing.

Burmistrov’s penalty could end up being a whole lot heftier if the NHL deems his hit worthy of a fine or suspension.
