The Texas Rangers scored one of the craziest runs you will ever see against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 5 of the teams’ American League Division Series.
Rangers right fielder Shin-Soo Choo stepped up to the plate with a chance to drive in Rougned Odor from third base with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, which is exactly what he did — sort of.
Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin went to throw the ball back to pitcher Aaron Sanchez during the at-bat, but the ball inadvertently struck Choo’s bat and rolled toward third base. An alert Odor took advantage of the miscue and scored from third.

The umpire originally called it a dead ball, which meant Odor couldn’t score. But Rangers manager Jeff Banister argued differently, and the umpires ultimately agreed with him after a conference due to rule 6.03a. According to the rule, if there is no intent by the batter in the batter’s box to interfere with the throw back to the pitcher, the ball is in play.
That caused Blue Jays manager John Gibbons to come out of the dugout and call for the game to be played under protest.
