UPDATE (8:09 P.M. ET): The Patriots announced that linebacker Dont’a Hightower and defensive end Trey Flowers won’t play against the Colts this Sunday.

ORIGINAL POST: The New England Patriots will be down a defensive starter Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Linebacker Dont’a Hightower won’t play after being listed as questionable with a rib injury, a source told the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe. Hightower suffered the ailment early in the Patriots’ Week 5 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerod Mayo and reserve linebacker Jonathan Freeny filled in for Hightower after he left the 30-6 win last week. Jonathan Bostic, who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears before the bye week, also could see time on defense next to starter Jamie Collins.
