Rex Ryan didn’t win a football game Sunday, but at least his troll game was strong.
The Buffalo Bills head coach and his team couldn’t overcome injuries and turnover issues, as they were upended by the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. It was a disappointing outcome for a Bills team that now finds itself in last place in the AFC East.
Maybe Ryan should be spending a little more time preparing for something other than the coin toss. On Sunday, with ex-Bills coach Doug Marrone on the Jacksonville sideline serving as the offensive line coach, Ryan decided to needle his predecessor. Ryan sent the Bills’ entire offensive line out for the coin toss, which certainly appeared to be an attempt at trolling Marrone.
Marrone left the Bills at the end of the 2014 season under some questionable circumstances. The former coach exercised a clause in his contract that allowed him to opt out of the deal and pursue new opportunities. He ended up in Jacksonville, and Ryan was hired to take over.
Marrone’s unit Sunday certainly did its job. The Jaguars were able to run for 123 yards on just 27 carries, and the supposedly vaunted Bills pass rush mustered only two sacks of Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles.
And most importantly, of course, the Jaguars escaped London with a 34-31 win.
