Tom Brady: Playing For Bill Belichick Has Been ‘Privilege’ For Star QB

To say Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have a good working relationship might be a bit of an understatement.

Two of the greatest ever at their respective positions, the New England Patriots quarterback and head coach are two cornerstones of one of the most successful runs in professional sports history.

There’s obvious mutual respect between the two, even if it’s not always visible or spoken about. On Tuesday, though, Brady spoke glowingly of his head coach during a weekly radio appearance on WEEI’s “The Dennis and Callahan Morning Show.”

“It’s a privilege to play with him,” Brady said Tuesday on WEEI. “He’s just been a great leader, example for me with how to prepare for a game, how to commit yourself to what is best for the team. I think he sets a great example for all of us. Little things are always big things, especially in football, when the margin of error is slim. I feel like we’re always so well prepared for all the situations that we face — whether it is on the road, at home, ahead, behind, four-minute, two-minute, whatever it is, he does a great job.”

Much has been made about Brady’s relationship with the head coach. They don’t seem particularly close, and a recent book by Gary Myers indicated the duo’s relationship doesn’t extend very far beyond Patriot Place.

“He’s always been a coach. I think for me, I think that is why our relationship works so well because he expects me to do my job and he always does his job so well,” Brady said when asked about his relationship with Belichick. “We see each other every day. There’s probably a lot of pulls and commitments that both of us have. He knows what my priority is and I know what his priority is.

“Off the field, we don’t get any time to do things like just hanging out. I don’t get a chance to do that with anybody at this point, just being so involved in my career and being involved with my family. Like I said, some of the other commitments that I’ve chosen, just not a lot of free time these days. These days are going fast. I’m sure we’ll always have a great relationship and I know we’re both proud of the things we’ve been able to accomplish.”

There’s no shortage of things to be proud of, either.
