Aqib Talib couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Now, the Denver Broncos cornerback is paying the price.
The NFL suspended Talib for one game Monday after he poked Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in the eye Sunday during the fourth quarter of the Broncos’ 27-24 loss at Lucas Oil Stadium. The league said in a statement it suspended Talib for a violation of safety-related playing rules.
Talib was flagged for unnecessary roughness following the incident, which occurred after Allen mixed it up with Broncos pass rusher Von Miller. The penalty proved costly, as it gave the Colts a first down and helped Indianapolis run out the clock.
Talib, who said after Sunday’s game that the eye poke was unintentional, plans to appeal the league’s suspension, according to ProFootballTalk.
If the suspension is upheld, Talib will miss the Broncos’ Week 10 game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
