The Boston Bruins, despite an ugly first week of the season, have lately turned things around.
A pair of Bruins responsible for that turnaround were recognized Monday by the NHL for their play. B’s forward Brad Marchand won the NHL’s first star for the past week and center David Krejci won the third star for the month of October.
Marchand’s been one of the NHL’s best goal scorers in the last week, potting four goals and adding a pair of assists. Unsurprisingly, the Bruins won all three of those games, and the pesky winger now has five goals and four assists through the first nine games of the season. St. Louis goalie Jake Allen was the week’s No. 2 star, followed by Edmonton’s Taylor Hall at No. 3.
As good as Marchand’s been lately and throughout the first month of the season, Krejci’s been even better. Krejci’s among the league leaders with 15 points through 10 games, with seven goals and eight assists. He’s been deadly on the Bruins’ league-leading power play, chipping in with 3-5-8 totals on the man-advantage.
The Bruins lost their first three games of the season, but they’ve gone 6-0-1 since then, including a current four-game winning streak, including a weekend sweep in Florida of the Panthers and Lightning.
Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn was named October’s first star, while Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price earned second star honors.
