Sports can seem so trivial when something like the attacks in Paris happen. But it can also be a source of unity and healing.
That was on full display when fans proudly sang the French national anthem as they were evacuated from Stade de France, where they were watching France and Germany play a soccer friendly at the time of the attacks.
The same can be said for sports fans and teams in the United States. The Washington Capitals held a special tribute for the victims before their game against the Calgary Flames on Friday.
The National Anthem is playing, but tonight our thoughts are with Paris. 🇫🇷 #CapsFlames #PrayersForParis pic.twitter.com/AVMIs81yWf

The same happened over Twitter, where countless athletes and teams tweeted out their thoughts and prayers for Paris.
