Move over, Refrigerator Perry. There’s a new big-man touchdown record holder, and his name is Dontari Poe.
On their second drive of the game Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs were faced with fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, knowing the San Diego Chargers were on their heels, went big — really big.
With the Chargers’ defense zeroed in on Chiefs running back Charcandrick West, Kansas City instead handed the ball to Poe, a 346-pound nose tackle, who dove over the pile for a TD.
Prior to Sunday’s game, Poe had yet to find the end zone in his four-year NFL career. Defensive tackles don’t get a lot of carries, but when they do, magic happens.
Poe now is the heaviest player in NFL history to score a touchdown, surpassing former Chicago Bears defensive tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry, who was listed at 335 pounds and scored three career TDs.
