Conor McGregor makes the UFC a lot of money, and he’s not afraid to tell you about it.
The UFC’s interim featherweight champion, whom many people have predicted will defeat Jose Aldo in next month’s much-anticipated UFC 194 event, recently boasted about his value to the brand in an Instagram post.
“Leaving Ireland today for the West Coast to unify my belt and spearhead the unprecedented $90-100 million dollar UFC 194 event,” McGregor wrote.
“This event, along with UFC 189 putting me at close to $200 million dollars in revenue generated for this company. All in less than (six) months. I am not a company man. I am the company.”
It’s hard to argue with McGregor’s assertion. Like Ronda Rousey on the women’s side, McGregor’s success and popularity have helped him, the sport and UFC gain more fans and generate a lot of revenue both in the United States and Europe.
Mixed martial arts can be a cruel sport, though, and there’s little doubt McGregor’s popularity and revenue-generating ability would take some sort of hit if he were to lose to Aldo. But with a perfect 6-0 record in UFC fights, the 27-year-old Irishman probably won’t have to worry about that.
