New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola left Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury.

Amendola appeared to hurt himself on a punt return, but he grabbed at his leg without being touched.

The Patriots announced Amendola was questionable to return, but he never came back in New England’s 20-13 win at Gillette Stadium.

Patriots fans likely will be concerned after watching running back Dion Lewis go down with a torn ACL in similar fashion earlier this season.

New England wide receiver Aaron Dobson already left Monday’s game with an ankle injury and did not return. Fellow wideout Keshawn Martin was declared inactive with a hamstring injury before Monday’s game, and No. 1 receiver Julian Edelman broke his foot in Week 10 versus the New York Giants.

Brandon LaFell became New England’s No. 1 receiver for the remainder of the game, while Chris Harper stepped into the No. 2 role.

Amendola had nine catches for 117 yards before leaving the game and was on the wrong end of a terrible inadvertent whistle blown by the officials.

UPDATE (2:30 a.m.): Amendola wasn’t spotted in the Patriots’ locker room after the game, which usually isn’t a good sign. Yet LaFell is of the belief that his teammate isn’t seriously hurt.

“When I saw him, it looked like he was in good spirits,” LaFell said, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “I hope it’s nothing major. Going to need him.”

UPDATE (6:00 p.m.): Amendola reportedly suffered a sprained knee Monday night against the Buffalo Bills but isn?t expected to miss extended time, CSNNE.com?s Tom E. Curran reported Tuesday. Amendola?s status for Sunday?s game against the Denver Broncos will be determined in practice this week, Curran reports.
