FOXBORO, Mass. — Duron Harmon had a great reason to miss the first practice of his three-year New England Patriots career.

Harmon was excused from Patriots practice Thursday due to the birth to his second son. Harmon had never missed a training camp, regular season or postseason practice in three years with the team, the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe pointed out.

Harmon is having a stellar 2015 season, with three interceptions and four pass breakups while taking on an increased role at free safety. He has yet to be individually targeted in the passing game, and head coach Bill Belichick has praised his range and playmaking ability.

Harmon’s absence is unlikely to affect his playing status Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
