Kirk Cousins had the game of his life Sunday, but his best gift wasn’t on the field. It was in the stands.
Cousins completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards with four touchdowns and a perfect 158.3 rating in the Washington Redskins’ 47-14 win over the New Orleans Saints. Better than that, though? His father, who was diagnosed with cancer during the offseason and hadn’t been to any of his son’s starts this season, caught his first game of the season Sunday.
Cousins kept a game ball with him after being removed in the fourth quarter and, after greeting players on the field following the win, ran over to his dad to present him with it, per the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg.
“To have him back was exciting, and then to have a game like that was a lot of fun, giving him the game ball,” Cousins said, via The Post. “And he just said, ‘Thank you. Thanks for a great day.’ It put a smile on his face. And it was special for our family, and we’ll enjoy it tonight.”
