The New England Patriots did some roster reshuffling Thursday, but, surprisingly, they didn’t add a running back or offensive tackle.
The Patriots signed defensive tackle Robert Thomas, ESPN’s Mike Reiss first reported Thursday. Thomas was cut from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad Nov. 10 and participated in Patriots practice Thursday.
Thomas will be added to the Patriots’ practice squad, a source told NESN.com. The Patriots must sign a player from their practice squad to the 53-man roster, where they have an open spot, to make room for Thomas. That player is not expected to be an offensive lineman, according to a source.
Thomas, who played in college at Arkansas, spent most of the 2014 season on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad. He was released Sept. 5 during final roster cuts and signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad after clearing waivers.
Thomas ran a 5.31-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-1, 327 pounds at his pro day last year with a 25.5-inch vertical leap, 8-foot broad jump, 5.07-second short shuttle, 8.05-second 3-cone and 37 bench press reps of 225 pounds.
