The New England Patriots took a look at another free-agent running back Friday.

The Patriots worked out former San Francisco 49ers fourth-round draft pick Kendall Hunter, according to a source. Hunter is coming off two major injuries. He tore his Achilles in 2012 and his ACL in July 2014.

Hunter, who’s 5-foot-7, 199 pounds, ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in 2011. He ran a 6.74-second 3-cone drill with a 4.21-second short shuttle, 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump and 35-inch vertical leap at the NFL Scouting Combine.

He has 262 career carries with 1,202 yards with seven touchdowns in 43 career NFL games. He also has 27 career receptions for 268 yards.

Hunter ran for 4,181 yards on 208 carries with 37 touchdowns in his four-year career at Oklahoma State. He added 63 receptions for 519 yards and two scores.

The Patriots have just three running backs on their 53-man roster after placing Dion Lewis on injured reserve last week. LeGarrette Blount has taken over the starting role, while James White filled in on third downs in Week 10. Brandon Bolden contributes on special teams and as a reserve running back. The Patriots also have fullback Joey Iosefa on their practice squad.
